Seton Hall Drops Final Game of Weekend to Creighton

Date: April 22, 2018

By: Wilnir Louis

After falling twice to the Creighton Bluejays yesterday, the Seton Hall softball team dropped their final home conference game 5-3.

In the bottom first inning, the balls were flying for the softball team after only allowing one hit in the top of the first inning. Janae Barracato started off the game with a double to right field. After two batters struck out swinging, Barracato was able to advance to third after a wild pitch. Then Payton Beaver brought Barracato home after a double to left field. That left field was looking like the hot zone for the Pirates after Darby Pandolfo homered to left field. The score was 3-0 at the end of the first inning.

After the first, Creighton responded back with an RBI by Jayci McGill to bring the score to 3-1 in favor of the Pirates. That would remain the score until the top of the fifth where Creighton started to connect. For Creighton, Sam Crowley hit a two-RBI single that brought Tash Coffiel and Kaitlynn Hunt home and tied the score up. With the next at-bat, Crowley came home with an RBI single by Mileah McKelvy. The Pirates were unable to answer in the bottom of the fifth or sixth inning.

In the top of the seventh inning, Kelli Finan hit an RBI double to add cushion for the Bluejays. However, it was not needed as three quick outs were the story for the Pirates in the bottom of the seventh.

The Pirates (18-29 Overall, 4-11 Conference) look to bounce back from this weekend's series with another weekend series next week against Villanova (22-17-1 Overall, 7-5 Conference). They will have a double header on April 28 with the first pitches of those games being thrown at 12 pm and 2:30 pm.
