Seton Hall dropped the finale of a three-game series at Florida International on Sunday afternoon, 6-5.

The Pirates got out to an early lead in the first inning thanks to a few clutch hits. After a double to left-center by Christian Del Castillo, sophomore Jerry Huntzinger drove him in with a single for the first run of the game. Then, senior Sebastiano Santorelli quickly followed with a two-run home run, giving the Hall a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, FIU quickly responded with two runs of their own off of Seton Hall’s sophomore starter Tyler Burnham. However, Casey Dana responded for the Hall a few innings later by tacking on an extra run to the Pirate lead, making it 4-2 after a solo shot in the third.

Seton Hall reliever Sean Miller helped to hold the Panthers hitless by throwing five hitless innings, striking out six in the process. However, the Pirates ran into some trouble come the sixth.

In the bottom of the inning, FIU finally recorded its first hit in a big way. Junior Juan Teixeira hit a three-run blast off of freshman Blaise Panzini to give the Panthers a 5-4 lead. FIU scored once again in the bottom of the seventh to go ahead for good, later winning by a score of 6-5.

With the loss, the Pirates fall to 1-9 on the season while the Panthers improve to 9-6.

Coming up, Seton Hall will be traveling to Port Charlotte, Florida for the Snowbird Classic. They are set to face the Bucknell Bison on Tuesday, March 12th at 1:30 p.m.
