SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (April 13) - WSOU will broadcast live from Vintage Vinyl in Fords, N.J. from 2-4 p.m. on Record Store Day, April 16.

Celebrated by collectors, small businesses, artists, and communities alike, the annual event takes place on the third Saturday of April.

Record Store Day 2016

Since its 2007 conception, the holiday has grown to receive international participation. RSD exclusives are limited to independently owned stores.

"Record Store Day is not about a single genre of music or a single format, but Record Store Day has drawn a whole new audience of music fans into the world of independent record stores," Record Store Day Co-founder Carrie Colliton said in a statement.

The presence and support of artists promote the music industry on a local scale. "This year's line-up should continue to do that and we'll hopefully continue to introduce the next generation of record buyers to both vinyl and the unique world of the record store," Colliton stated.

Dozens of artists will be attending Record Store Day. OTEP will be signing their 2016 RSD exclusive picture disc at Silver Platters in Seattle, WA; Killswitch Engage will visit Newbury Comics in Leominster, MA; and Metallica will be performing at Rasputin Music in Berkeley, CA.

Metallica is also the 2016 RSD Ambassador, showcasing the theme of uniting music lovers all over the world. "As music becomes available either through only the internet or in gigantic airport-size retail stores, it is more important than ever - actually vital - that all us fanatics continue to bring to light the importance of records, and to support to the maximum of our abilities the independent record store outlet. The good news is, of course, that vinyl is making a measurable comeback," Lars Ulrich, founding member and drummer of Metallica, said in a statement.

"Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, Metallica! - Live at Le Bataclan. Paris, France - June 11th, 2003" is to be released exclusively to independent retailers, with all profits donated to Fondation de France's Give For France charity. The CD includes nine remastered tracks, according to Metallica's website.

The exclusives are being packaged and shipped nationwide as RSD approaches. A video released by Record Store Day Officials offers an inside look at a Louisville warehouse.
