Interview with Randy Blythe

Date: June 11, 2015

Our own Nick was able to ask Randy form Lamb of God a couple of artsy questions including questions about his new art exhibit!

Below these excerpts is a full audio version.

How has the reception been for your exhibit so far?

It's been really good, I got a really nice write up in billboard, a really nice piece in the village voice. I've been doing a lot of press for that. The Opening was really well attended, and their was a soft opening the day before so some press and some friends came out, and it was all my photography. Some professional artist came out and I sold some pieces and managed to raise a little money for charity and it went really well.

What was the inspiration of behind this?

The inspiration behind was the same as every other creative thing I've done, someone reached out to me and said "hey do you want to do this?" and I said "sure". I never said "I'm going to be in this band, one of the guitar players asked me. I never said "I want to write a book", one of the agents came to me and asked if I would like to write a book. One of the gallery owners followed me because of my photography, he didn't know I was in Lamb of God, but he hit me up and asked if I wanted to do a gallery show in New York about a year ago and I said "sure". It was just a crash course in learning and I'm super glad I did it.

What got you in love with photography?

It was completely by accident, I had a camera and I used it to shoot a skateboarding video, and other stuff like that, and one day I was looking at my coffee pot and I was like "let me use this camera for what it was made for." So I took a picture of my French press and I looked at it and I was like "whoa, that was cool". And that was 4 years ago and form there I was just shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting. But the whole thing was by accident.

Do you think you'll be doing more of these galleries in the future?

Yea, if someone asks me to, I'm way too busy to be chasing after things, I have the band, and the book, and my family. If someone presents me with the opportunity and it's a good one I'll take it.
