The Seton Hall Pirates have a quick turnaround as they take on the Butler Bulldogs this Sunday, Jan. 17 with a 1:00 p.m. tip-off time. With a recent win against Marquette, the Pirates now bear a 5-3 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. Whereas the Bulldogs are 1-7 overall and are 1-6 in conference play with a recent win over Georgetown.

Not even a week ago, the Pirates took on the Bulldogs and defeated them 79-64. One of the newer Pirates to the Hall’s lineup, Graduate student Andra Espinoza-Hunter had seven three-pointers to add to her game high of 23 points on the night.

Espinoza-Hunter continued her dominance at three-point line on this past Friday when the Pirates took on Marquette. She once again made seven three pointers to add to her new game-high total of 25 points. Combining both of these games, Espinoza-Hunter is now tied for the second-most three pointers made in a single-game in Seton Hall history.

Going back to the last Butler matchup, three other Pirates scored in double figures that night. Lauren Park-Lane finished with 18 points, Jasmine Smith had 14, and Mya Jackson had 12 points to go along with six rebounds. Park-Lane has continued to dominate on the court as she had now scored in double-figures in 10 straight games and has had at least five assists in seven games so far this season. Her and Espinoza-Hunter show no signs of slowing down and will look to have more outstanding performances this Sunday.

Looking at the Bulldogs, they scored a season high of 65 points against the Pirates. While the Hall definitely showed their offensive dominance, their defense is going to need to be improved to ensure Butler doesn’t get another season high. Yet this problem can be traced back to the Pirates’ 12 turnovers on the night.

In the last matchup, Butler’s scoring leader was senior guard Genesis Parker who had 17 points on the night. Another Bulldog the Pirates need to stop this time around is Okako Adika who had 12 points to go along with seven rebounds. In their recent win against Georgetown, Parker, and Adika were once again the scoring leaders for the Bulldogs. Butler was able to capitalize off of their defense by turning 19 turnovers into 19 points. They will try to take this momentum into their matchup with the Hall.

With the Pirates and Bulldogs facing off again so close to their last matchup, we have to hope both teams are going to be able to make the necessary adjustments. Tip-off will be at 1:00 p.m. so make sure to tune in to 89.5 FM WSOU as Wilnir Louis and Michael Daly will be on the call with pre-game coverage starting at 12:45 p.m.
