Despite a valiant effort by Myles Powell, the Seton Hall Pirates fell to the Nebraska Cornhuskers 80-57 in Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Pirates started with a lead two minutes into the game after two layups and a free throw by Powell gave Seton Hall a 5-2 lead. Nebraska would respond with a three by Isaac Copeland, which tied the game up with 17:54 left in the first half. The Pirates then went on a three-minute scoring drought as Nebraska would gain and extend their lead to five points with 13:30 left in the first half. The Pirates then cut the Cornhuskers lead to two with a jumper by Anthony Nelson with 12:21 left in the half.

However, the Cornhuskers would extended their lead to seven points, as they were up 20-13 with 7:48 left in the first half. As the first half continued going on, no team could grasp full momentum and the Pirates entered the halftime break down 33-27. At the break, Powell led the team in scoring with 15 points on 5-10 shooting.

The beginning of the second half was similar to the end of the first half, as both teams were trading baskets. The game was still manageable for the Pirates well into the half before a fast break layup by Thomas Allen gave Nebraska an 11-point lead with 9:02 left in the game. Nebraska would never look back, and they put the exclamation point on their win with an alley-oop dunk by Isaiah Roby from the Glynn Watson Jr. pass gave the Cornhuskers 77-55 lead with 1:58 left in the game. The game ended with the score being 80-57.

Kevin Willard after the game expressed some positives about his team tonight.

“I loved their effort and I like their attitude… I was happy with their effort. Tough place to play and good team.”

In addition, looking ahead to their next game, Willard believes that there is a lot to learn from this loss.

“I think you can learn a ton. We will get home, break down the tape and see things that we did well… I think there’s a lot of things that we did well and we’ll look at the things that we didn’t do well and improve on it”

The Seton Hall men’s basketball team will return to action on Saturday as they play their first game at the Prudential Center against the Saint Louis Billikens. That game will tip off at 8 P.M. and will be broadcasted on 89.5 FM WSOU.
