Post Game Wrap Up (3/10)

Date: March 11, 2015

ROSEMONT, IL—Seton Hall will have to wait until Monday to see if they will have a ticket booked for the NCAA Tournament, as the Lady Pirates fall to DePaul 78-68 in the BIG EAST Tournament Championship Game.

The Blue Demons took the lead early, and never looked back, opening up the first half with a 15-3 run. The Pirates were able to bring the lead back down a couple times, but DePaul was always able to push it back to double digits and prevent a Seton Hall comeback.

Coach Anthony Bozzella was quick to put the blame on his shoulders, “They made an adjustment, I didn't handle it well, I didn't adjust properly, and it falls on my shoulders.” He said. “Don't blame the kids for this. This is on me at the end of the day.”

“DePaul played really good defense,” Ka- Deidre Simmons added. “I think our guards just didn't do a good job of getting open. We couldn't really start our offense.”

Seton Hall was 2-0 in conference play against the Blue Demons. Both of their wins were spurred by double digit comebacks.

Tonight’s loss puts the focus on Monday for the Lady Pirates, because that is when they will find out their fate for the NCAA Tournament. The latest “Bracketology” on ESPN had them placed as a 9-seed.

“I know we will do well because we deserve to be a top six or seven seed in the country, there's no doubt in my mind.” Bozzella said. “We're 285.”

The second year coach also noted how quick the turnaround was for the Pirates team, since he took over as coach. In the two years preceding to his arrival, they totaled 27 wins, not matching the 28 they won in one year alone.

Although the Ka-Deidre Simmons did not get the trophy she wanted, she did pick up All-Tournament team honors for her play at the Allstate Arena in the last three days. She also led the Pirates in scoring, in the Championship Game, with 23 points. Tiffany Jones had 14, and Daisha Simmons added 12 to the scoring effort.
