The Seton Hall women’s volleyball team fell to the No. 9 Creighton Bluejays Saturday in Walsh Gymnasium, 3-0.

In the first set, Creighton took the lead early and held on to it. After the Bluejays led 4-2 in the beginning of the set, Creighton went on a 4-0 scoring run to increase their lead to 8-2 before a kill by Abby Thelen from Sophia Coffey ended their run. After back and forth scoring by both teams towards the end of the set, Jaali Winters recorded the kill that would end the first set, as Creighton took the set 25-16.

Creighton continued to play strong in the second set, going on a 4-0 run early on to lead 5-3 in the beginning of the set. Seton Hall would then respond with a 3-0 run before Creighton went on a seven-point barrage to lead 12-6. Creighton would eventually lead 24-13 before the Pirates began their rally cry. Kills by Caitlin Koska, Coffey, and Thelen and attack errors by Kelsey O’Connell and Taryn Kloth would cut the Pirates deficit down to only five points as Creighton led 24-15. Kloth would end the set by a score of 25-19 with a kill of her own with the help of an assist by Megan Sharkey.

Early on in the third set, both teams were putting up a fight. No team could get a commanding lead early on. However, the Pirates found themselves in a hole, being down 11-9 after a kill by Gasser. Creighton would end up ending the set on a 14-4 run and taking the third set 25-13.

Speaking on the 1-1 weekend, head coach Ally Yaeger stated that she was happy about the Providence win, but frustrated with tonight’s results.

“It’s disappointing when we played the way we played today because we didn’t play well. Every time a team like Creighton comes into our gym that is a huge opportunity to upset someone like that [but] our lack of discipline today was really disappointing.”

However, coach Yaeger was still optimistic about their next match, Senior Night, against St. John’s.

“We usually play good on senior night, and I don’t need to motivate them. When it’s their last game at Walsh gym it’s very emotional and they usually leave it all on the court.”

The St. John’s match will take place on November 9th at 8 pm, inside Walsh Gymnasium.
