Pirates sneak past CCSU 2-1

Date: August 28, 2018

The Seton Hall men’s soccer team (2-0-0) added another game to the win column with a 2-1 victory against Central Connecticut (0-1-0) Tuesday on the road.

SHU’s first goal arrived in the 19th minute, when redshirt junior Alex Pozesky sent in a through ball that was finished off by freshman Martin Storesund.

With the game at a 1-1 stalemate for close to an hour, Seton Hall managed to put one past the keeper in the 85th minute. Junior Carlton McKenzie provided the eventual game-winner with a header, crossed in off of the foot of Nico Andersen. Finishing with eight saves on the game, CCSU goalkeeper Carson D’Ambrosio was bested for a second score to push momentum in the direction of Seton Hall. Possession leaned heavily in the Pirates favor, and they were ultimately able to pull off the win on the road.

In the BIG EAST era, the Hall have only started their season off with back-to-back road wins once. This happened in 1987, when they came away with victories at Iona and Penn State.

The last time the Pirates started off the season 2-0, they went on to improve to 4-0 during the 2008 season. Leading Tuesday night’s match in shots per half and shots on goal, the offense showed that they are firing on all cylinders.

This victory came after news broke hours before the match that CJ Tibbling had earned Big East Freshman of the Week honors. Tibbling earned the award by scoring two goals in the Hall’s opening victory against Army West Point on August 24th.

To wrap up their three-game road stretch to kick off the season, Seton Hall will be traveling to Delaware. Scheduled to face off against the Blue Hens on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 7 pm, they’ll look to stay hot before returning home on September 6th when they host Hofstra at 6:30 pm.
