Seton Hall men’s soccer (5-5-0 overall, 2-2-0 conf.) faced a tall task in Washington D.C. on Friday afternoon going against No. 12 Georgetown. They fought hard but eventually fell to the Hoyas, 2-0, after 90 minutes.

The Pirates came into this matchup winners of four straight dating back to their Sept. 24 tilt against NJIT. Georgetown, on the other hand, were riding the same high, with their last loss coming on the same date against Louisville, 1-0.

That is Seton Hall’s only loss of the season. The matchup between the two teams lived up to the hype in the first 45 minutes as Seton Hall’s defense stepped up big. The Pirates were able to hold Georgetown to seven shots in the first half. One of those shots was in the 20th minute, where Andreas Nota made a great save to keep everything scoreless in the half.

Georgetown made a valiant effort coming out of the intermission. A shot by Jack Beer was saved by Nota, however, the senior for Georgetown Achara was able to get the rebound and send it to the back of the net for the first goal of the game. After that goal, both teams were still aggressive.

In the 60th minute, a hard challenge by Seton Hall forced the referees to assess a card to two Pirates. Vittorio Argeri was given a yellow card and Carlton McKenzie was handed a red card, which forced Seton Hall to play one man down for the final 30 minutes. Seton Hall would continue to keep the game within one, until Achara scored once again for the Hoyas after intercepting a keeper clear.

For the final stat lines, Seton Hall was outshot in the game 26-4. Seton Hall did have two shots on goal, but they were both saved by Giannis Nikopolidis. Nota registered eight saves in the game which is the most he has saved in a match this season. This match was also the first time this season that the Pirates had lost by more than one goal.

Seton Hall men’s soccer will have an opportunity to redeem themselves in a midweek non-conference matchup on Wednesday at Hofstra. The first kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
