The Seton Hall Women's Basketball team fell to Villanova 59-53 in the second and final game of their weekend road trip. A strong fourth quarter was not enough to comeback from a poor second and third quarter.

The first quarter was a big defensive battle for both sides. Tight defense led to uncomfortable and off balance shots as Seton Hall shot 4-for-16 and Villanova shot 4-for-15 at the end of the quarter. Villanova ended the quarter with an 11-8 lead. In the second quarter, Villanova started to pull away. At the half, Villanova led Seton Hall 29-18.

The Pirates struggled shooting in the first half, going 9-for-38 on the floor and 0-for-6 behind the arc. JaQuan Jackson led the Pirates offense in the first half with eight points and two assists. The Pirates also outrebounded the Wildcats 25-23 and 12-4 on the offensive glass. Selena Philoxy led the Pirates in rebounding at the half with five total rebounds and four offensive rebounds.

At the beginning of the third quarter, the Wildcats continued to run off with the lead. The Wildcats had their largest lead of 18 points at the 6-minute mark in the third quarter. However, the Pirates began to battle back. The Pirates went on a 6-0 run before the break in the third quarter to bring the Wildcats lead down to 12. This lead would stay consistent as the Wildcats led 46-34 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth, the Pirates continued their strong efforts. They shot 56.3 percent on 9-for-16 shooting in the final quarter, and outscored the Wildcats 19-13. However, their efforts was too little too late.

Three Pirates were in double figures in scoring in the ballgame. Jackson led the team with 13 points, while Selena Philoxy had a career high with 12 points, and Kaela Hilaire had 10 points. The Pirates also outrebounded the Wildcats 45-39.

Seton Hall (7-8 BE, 15-11) will look to bounce back when they face St. John's (8-7 BE, 15-11) in the Carnesecca Area in Queens, New York. Catch all the action of that game on 89.5FM WSOU.
