Date: October 7, 2017

By: Chris Schweitzer

Seton Hall lost to Butler in straight sets on Saturday night, dropping to 10-10 on the season and 4-3 in Big East play. The Pirates' loss also snapped their three game winning streak, their longest of the season.

After falling down 6-1 in the first set, the Pirates came back and eventually took the lead 11-10. From that point on the first set was back and forth and would be tied at 24. Butler won the next two points and took the first set 26-24.

The second set didn't start off well for Seton Hall either as Butler got off to a quick 4-0 lead. The Pirates closed the gap and the set was closely contested the rest of the way. No team won more than two points in a row until Butler won three in a row to finish of the set by a score of 25-20.

The third set started off much better as the Pirates jumped out to an early 8-5 lead to begin the set partly due to a kill each from Abby Thelen, Dominique Mason, and Caitlin Koska. Butler would climb back and eventually win the set 25-20 after taking over late in the third set.

Despite the loss the Pirates got good performances from Caitlin Koska and Abby Thelen as they got 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Defensively, the Pirates were able to get 11 digs from Maggie Cvelbar, and 10 from Dominique Mason.

The Pirates next game is a matchup against Villanova, Wednesday at 7:00 PM inside Walsh Gymnasium. Listen to the game online at wsou.net.
