Pirates end season with 1-0 loss to Villanova

Date: November 1, 2018

In an up and down season for Seton Hall men’s soccer, the Pirates weren’t able to close it out the way they hoped, losing 1-0 to Villanova.

The first half was quiet for the most part, with neither team able to connect on their shots. Seton Hall applied more pressure however, going into the break with a 7-5 lead in total shots.

The Wildcats adjusted well to start the second half, as senior Zach Zandi was able to connect on a goal in the 55th minute. Seton Hall continued to attack mightily, but was never able to tie it up, as the final score ended at 1-0 in Nova’s favor.

Seton Hall dominated on the attack, finishing with 24 shots compared to 10 for the Wildcats. CJ Tibbling had eight shots on his own, as well as five from Carlton McKenzie, two players that Seton Hall will have back for 2019. However, the Pirates were never able to connect for a goal, proving to be the difference in the game.

The loss put Seton Hall’s record for the season at 6-7-2 (2-6-1). After starting out the season at a convincing 4-2-1, the Pirates struggled throughout Big East play. However, it was definitely a step in the right direction, as new head coach Andreas Lindberg gave the Pirates their best overall record since 2013, when the Hall finished at 7-9-2.
