Date: September 24, 2017

By: Chris Schweitzer

Seton Hall fell to Marquette by a score of 4-2 in their first Big East road contest of the season on Saturday night.

The Pirates got off to a slow start in this matchup as they fell down to Marquette 3-0 in the first half. Things started off sloppy for both sides as there were five fouls committed in the first nine minutes of the game. Marquette was able to break through first as they scored the first goal with 13 minutes played in the half. Shortly after their first goal the Golden Eagles doubled their lead and scored a second goal in the 19th minute.

Seton Hall only had one shot and one corner kick before Marquette's second goal but they were able to go forward and attack very well after that. They were able to get off four shots and two corner kicks in the next five minutes after the second goal from Marquette. Unfortunately for the Pirates they weren't able to turn those chances into a goal.

Marquette dominated much of the half after the Pirates had their chances halfway through and they were able to turn those chances into another goal. They took a 3-0 lead in the 30th minute and held the lead into halftime.

The Pirates came out aggressive in the second dominating much of the play and were finally able to put the ball in the back of the net. Nick Najera was able to put the Pirates on the board and score his first goal of the season in the 52nd minute to make it 3-1 Marquette.

The Golden Eagles conceded possession for much of the second half in order to stay strong in defense, however they were able to notch one more goal in transition. In the 79th minute, Marquette scored on a breakaway immediately after a Seton Hall corner kick to make it a 4-1 lead.

Seton Hall drew one back when Andres Arcila scored after dribbling along the end line and put it in the back of the net. The Pirates were unable to manage a comeback from the 3-0 first half deficit. The team struggled to stay disciplined again, as defender Nick Najera also got sent off with a red card in the 85th minute.

Seton Hall's next game is Saturday September 30 at home against Creighton. The game starts at 1 P.M. Tune into WSOU 89.5 FM for a broadcast of the game.
