The Seton Hall softball team kicked off the Under Armour Invitational yesterday, playing a double header against South Dakota State and Loyola (Chicago), losing both games in Clearwater, Florida.

In the first game against SDSU, the Pirates lost 6-1 after the Jack Rabbits scored at least one run in the last three innings.

Madison Strunk took the circle to start the game for the third consecutive time. The junior gave The Hall four solid innings striking out three Jack Rabbits and yielding only one run. In a 1-1 ball game, fellow Texan native Chrisa Head took over the reins in relief of Strunk. Unlike her classmate, Head could not find the answers as the Jack Rabbits scored five times over three innings, giving up 10 hits in the process.

Seton Hall's bats were kept quiet all afternoon by Madison Hope, the pitcher for South Dakota. The lone breakthrough came in the third on an RBI base hit to left from senior second baseman Sarah Foster. The Pirates were held to just four hits in the game, with the others coming from Hailey Arteaga, Alyssa Prukop and Chrisa Head.

In the second game of the double header, the Pirates Loyola University (Chicago). The Ramblers took down the Pirates 12-0 in five innings.

Pirate pitchers Mo Sobel and Chrisa Head combined for just 3.1 innings but together gave up all 12 Rambler runs.

Offensively, Seton Hall was again limited to just four hits in those five innings but there was a lone bright spot for The Hall. Freshman Janae Barracato went two for two on the game with a walk as well, continuing her strong spring debut hitting .404 so far. Barracato has registered at least one hit in eight of her last nine games.

The Pirates continue the Under Amrour Tournament today with a double header against Northern Kentucky and Lehigh and then finish it up Sunday morning against Central Michigan. After that, the Pirates return to the tristate area to participate in the Fordham Tournament in the Bronx, NY.
