Pirates downed by Providence, 3-0

The Seton Hall women’s volleyball team lost to Providence in straight sets this Friday, November 1, this extends their losing streak to six games. They now have an overall record of 7- 18 and a in conference record of 2-9.

The Seton Hall Pirates lead early in the first set going up 5-3. They would continue this display of dominance by going on a 5-2, making the score 10-5 and forcing Providence head coach Royer-Johnson to call a timeout. Coming out of the break, Providence would take 14 straight points to end the set 25-16.

The Friars dominance would continue into the second set as they went up 5-2 early. The Pirates would battle back to bringing the set to within one point, 10-9. Providence then went on another commanding 8-3 run making the score 18-12. Despite Seton Hall’s best efforts, they would ultimately lose the set 25 to 23.

The third and final set was much closer, with neither team being able to pull away early. With the set tied at 11, Providence would go on a six-point run before being stopped by the Pirates going on their own run to tie the game back up at 17 apiece. After more back and forth that had the game tied at 20, the Friars would go on a five-point run to end the set and the match.

In the tough loss, the Pirates were led on the stat sheet by senior Haylee Gasser and junior Amanda Rachwal. Gasser played the majority of all three sets and finished the game with 12 kills on 41 attempts for a total of 14.5 points. Rachwal ended the game with 12 kills on 28 attempts and 12.5 points. Other Pirate standouts include senior setter Maggie Cvelbar, 31 assists and 11 digs, and freshman libero Raygan Murray, four assists and 20 digs.

The Pirates will be in action again this Sunday, November 3, as they take on the Creighton Bluejays (18-3) in Omaha, Nebraska. Your next chance to see them in Walsh Gymnasium will be Friday, November 8, at 7 p.m.
