In the final game of the UNGC Invitational in Greensboro, N.C., the Seton Hall softball team defeated the Virginia Cavaliers in a final score of 9-7.

The Cavaliers jumped on the board first as a RBI to center by Olivia Gott drove in Dani Ingraham. Gott advanced to second on a throwing error by the Hall, but in the bottom of the first, the Pirates responded with a three-run home run by Alexis Walkden.

Much of the game consisted in this back-and-forth pace of play. In the fourth inning, the Hall scored another three runs on quality at-bats and consistency at the plate. The team looked to a small-ball approach as singles by Payton Beaver, Hailey Arteaga and Janae Barracato scored all three runs in the inning.

The Cavaliers retaliated in the fifth inning with a solo shot by Gott and scored two more runs in the sixth and seventh frames, but this wasn't enough to make up for the Pirates' earlier offense.

Both sides ended the game with 14 hits each while the Hall had fewer strike outs and left fewer men on base compared to those of Virginia.

Gott went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Cavaliers and did the most damage to the Pirates. Arteaga and Barracato both had solid days at the plate both going 3-for-4 and Walkden tallied the most RBI's in the game from her three-run homer.

The Pirates' starter Reganne Camp gave up five earned runs in 5.1 innings, but reliever Chrisa Head finished the game giving up two runs in 1.2 frames.

The Pirates' next game is set for Friday, March 2 against SIU Edwardsville part of the five game EMU Madeira Beach Invitational in Madeira Beach, Fla.
