By: Matthew Mlodzinski

In a matchup against a former Big East rival, Seton Hall women’s basketball got the better of Boston College, winning 73-53. The Pirates were able to showcase their ability to score the ball as well as their gritty defense.

The 14 points scored by the Pirates in the 1st quarter were the least they scored the entire game. Nonetheless, JaQuan Jackson hit two big threes, giving the Hall a three-point lead after quarter number one.

Jackson again hit two more threes in the 2nd quarter, as the Pirates were able to start off on an 11-0 run. They used a lot of defense, forcing multiple turnovers and blocks in the 2nd quarter, allowing for the Pirates to extend their lead into double digits. Kimi Evans then beat the halftime buzzer, giving Seton Hall a 34-22 lead.

The Pirates used team ball in the 3rd quarter, as six different players were able to score. Donnaizha Fountain led the Pirates throughout the quarter, scoring six points and grabbing three rebounds, helping Seton Hall to a 53-40 lead into the final 10 minutes.

The Pirates started off on an 8-2 run in the 4th quarter, allowing for head coach Tony Bozzella to ease up on the gas and slow down the pace of play for the last few minutes. The Pirates were still able to win by 20 points, showing their ability the control the game in both slow and fast paces of play.

Playing well in the win for the Hall were Fountain and Jackson, who combined for 36 of the Pirates 73 points. They’ll look to have similar success when No. 7 UCLA comes to town for a date with the Pirates on Sunday, December 17th inside Walsh Gymnasium. Game time is set for 1 PM.
