New Music 8/31

Date: August 31, 2015

Here is the new music added for the week of August 31st, 2015.

Baroness - Chlorine and Wine
Baroness released a really early single off their upcoming December release Purple. This obviously continues their color theme and continues where they left off with the Yellow and Green double album. It is a lot more melodic, but in a very good way. If you already liked this band, you'll probably think this is the best song of the year.
RIYL: Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Valkyrie

My Dying Bride - To Shiver in Empty Halls
My Dying Bride are about to turn 30(!!!!) years old, but they haven't lost a step as so many of the songs on this albums sound so similar to what they started off as. There are a lot more songs with clean vocals than they had originally, but for the most part they still hit hard and doomy.
RIYL: November's Doom, Paradise Lost, Katatonia

Amorphis - Death of a King
After shying away from heavy vocals for a little bit, Amorphis really took it to another level, in terms of progressiveness and heaviness on this new record. Reminds me of all eras of Opeth combined into one album.
RIYL: Opeth, Insomnium, Dark Tranquility

Hammercult - Spoils of War
A death/thrash band that has been picking up a lot of steam recently. They're also from Tel-Aviv, Israel which is incredible unusual for a metal band, let alone of their subgenre.
RIYL: Revocation, Sylosis, Battlecross

Once Human - Pick Your Poison
The new band of the old guitarist of Machine Head, but this is so much different. They sound just like early, Angela-era Arch Enemy and not just because they have a female vocalist.
RIYL:Arch Enemy, The Haunted, Amon Amarth

Behold! The Monolith - Philosopher's Blade
A band that sounds like Matt Pike worshipers. Seriously cool California doom/stoner metal. The vocals are more on the death/doom end too so it adds a unique twist to an existing formula.
RIYL: High on Fire, Celtic Frost, North

As always, if you see something you like, request it! WSOU is happy to play all of the newest and loudest!
