New Music 8/24

Date: August 24, 2015

Along with the songs added below, we also have new songs by Soilwork, Cattle Decapitation, Children of Bodom. Rivers of Nihil and Motorhead!

Deafheaven - Brought to the Water
After releasing one of the most highly acclaimed albums in 2013, Deafheaven are back and heavier than ever. After Pitchfork, a mainstream media outlet, gave it a number six review and all the mainstream attention they got, you would think they'd lighten up their sound a little, but they made it more black metal and it is absolutely amazing.
RIYL: So Hideous, Downfall of Gaia, Wolves in the Throne Room

The Devil Wears Prada - Alien

This is easily the heaviest and most technical DWP release I have heard. The whole EP is about space and exploration so reading the lyrics was pretty entertaining. If you enjoyed the Zombie EP, you'll love this.
RIYL: August Burns Red,The Word Alive, Architects

Defeater - Pennance
One of the main bands in the melodic hardcore genre. All of their albums have followed a concept in which he details the struggles of a working class New Jersey family in the post World War II era, so this album continues on that. Listen to the Adambomb's interview with the singer, Derek, here!
RIYL: Touche Amore, Counterparts, Modern Life is War

The Sword - Early Snow
The sword have really been picking up a lot of steam recently, coming off a couple major tours in between their last release, Apocryphon, and this one High Country. This is basically a new beginning for the band as they switched from a more doomy metal sound to a stoner rock sound, incorporating a lot more rock and instrumentals from other genres. But its still the same riff loving band everyone knows
RIYL: Red Fang, Baroness, Black Tusk

Metal Allegiance - Dying Song
Metal Allegiance is a super group that basically kills all other supergroups. Alex Skolnickm Mike Portnoy, and David Ellefson lay down the instruments on every track (with other guest musicians such as Rex Brown, Matt Heafy, Ben Weinman and about 9138013 others). Every track also has a guest vocalist, with the biggest names in metal singing on it, this one has Phil Anselmo.
RIYL: Down, Pantera, Testament

So Hideous - YesterYear
Another band, like Deafheaven, that combines black metal with a lot of shoegaze and atmospheric elements. This song is no different from their previous efforts as you can hear the heaviness but you can also feel the surrounding elements that make it a lot less intimating for a newcomer to black metal.
RIYL: Deafheaven, Downfall of Gaia, Wolves in the Throne Room

Wolfheart - Storm Centre
This band was in new music earlier this year, and the winter theme continues with this release. The band has a little less atmosphere than their previous release and has a more straight up melodic death vibe but the sound is just as powerful and heavy.
RIYL: Insomnium, Shade Empire, Omnium Gatherum

Renaissance of Fools - On Your Knees
Based on their name, I thought they'd be a folk band but they're a really cool prog band. Reminds me a lot of the Native Construct album that dropped this year with a little more rock influences than that release.
RIYL: Native Construct, Porcupine Tree, Mars Volta

Islander - Cold Speak
Islander are a band that combine a nu-metal sound with a post-hardcore sound. They're about to head out on tour with Korn and Suicide Silence which will be heading to the Irving Plaza in October.
RIYL: Korn, 40 Below Summer, Sevendust
