Soulfly - Live Life Hard!

Max Cavalera has been trying to get heavier and more relevant in the heavier side of metal for the past couple years and this Soufly album is another step in that direction. This song has the vocalist of sludge-grind-punk-hardcore band King parrot featured on it. It is a quick and in your face track

RIYL: Max Cavalera

CROWN- Apnea

CROWN is a band with a really weird set up, and they're probably the only band that falls under the industrial drone category. They have three guitars and a vocalist. Everything else is computer generated, which makes for a really unique combination, but it is something that worked really wel for them on this album.

RIYL: Lord Mantis, Paradise Lost, Cult Leaer

Archer - Culling the Weak

This band basically channels Zakk Wylde, when it comes to guitar playing and singing. You can tell that they also have a lot of classic metal influences, but with a modern metal edge to it.

RIYL: Black Label Society, Kings X, Cracked Alice

The Oxford Coma - Ritaling

They describe themselves as Primus, Tool, Mars Volta and a couple more alternative bands with a dropped tuning. Imagine if if the above bands were driven through a muddy filter, and you get THe Oxford Coma (which is 100% a compliment). The album was produced by Steve Albini (who has produced 1,500 albums but is probably best known for Nirvana's In Utero).

RIYL: Kyuss, The Mars Volta, Thulcandra

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats - Waiting for Blood

Although they're from England, they would pretty much be the poster child for California Psychedelic Metal/Rock. Very spacey, doomy guitars with clear vocals layered right above it. The band also has a huge cult following in the doom community.

RIYL: Windhand, Electric Wizard, Sleep

InAeona - Leader

Spacey post metal from Boston. This band is really all over the place, as they have melodic  post rock vocals as well has heavier vocals. Metalsucks compared the franticness of the song as being almost Mike Patton-like because of all the different directions they take the song in.

RIYL:  Agent Fresco, Cult of Luna
