Seton Hall
New Music for 6/29/15
Date: June 29, 2015A whole lot of music this week. Take a look!
The Black Dahlia Murder - Vlad, Son of the Dragon
In
my opinion, one of the best bands in the melodic death metal genre,
because they're able to combine guttural and black metalish vocals with
crazy instrumental work all while having an incredible groove and melody
to it. This track is exactly what you can expect from them, maybe just a
little bit more raw than their 2013 release "Everblack"
RIYL: Job For A Cowboy, Faceless, Despised IconRefused - 366
Not
as heavy as Elektra, but still packs a punch to it. They just finished
up their own tour and are about to head on a huge tour that is coming to
the Madison Square Garden with Faith No More. RIYL: Cancer Bats, Gallows, At the Drive in
Thy Art Is Murder - Coffin Dragger
This
song has Winston from Parkway Drive on vocals and its absolutely
killer. Deathcore is a genre that can get pretty boring at times, but
Thy Art Is Murder have always found ways to make their music interesting
and different every time.
RIYL: The Acacia Strain, Whitechapel, Carnife
Lindemann - Fish On
This
is the singer from Rammstein's solo project, but it sounds just like a
Rammstein song, so if you like them, you'll love this. Busy time for him
as Lindemann confirmed that Rammstein will return to the studio in the
fall so you can expect a record from them pretty shortly.
RIYL: Rammstein, Emigrate, Rob Zombie
Act of Defiance - Throwback
Act
of Defiance started off as a spin off of Megadeth, as Shawn Drover and
Chris Broderick formed this band once they left. They also recruited the
singer from Scar Your Martyr (Joey Jordison's new band) to sing for
this. Its as shreddy and technical as Megedeth but with more death-y
vocals.
RIYL: Revocation, Sylosis, Testament
Jungle Rot - Paralyzed Prey
Death
metal from Wisconsin (go figure) that for some weird reason is on
Victory Records, but I guess they almost always have their one band that
doesn't really fit with everything else they push. Also fun fact: a
Jungle Rot is an infection of the feet that happens when you leave your
shoes on after they get really wet , which happened a lot in the jungle.
Maybe that wasn't so fun, but whatever.
RIYL: Broken Hope, Six Feet Under, Skinless
Organ Dealer - Black Dolphin
Another
local New Jersey outfit. Honestly this might be the heaviest thing I
have heard. Everything from the name, to the songs, to the lyrics, to
the sound is absolutely brutal. It isn't just a wall of noise, though,
as the song is surprisingly groovy, especially for a grindcore act.
RIYL: Cretin, Nails, Pig Destroyer
Robots and Monsters - Down to Ash
Robots
and Monsters are a local hardcore/metal three piece, which is
impressive considering how busy their sound is. They have a lot of post
hardcore influences in their sound as well, and I'm really getting a
huge ETID vibe from this track.
RIYL: Every Time I Die, Refused, Cancer Bats
Glowsun - Against the Clock
Another
three piece (I have a huge soft spot for them, I have no idea why),
but this time from France. The instrumental work sounds a lot like Crack
the Skye era Mastodon, and the vocals are pretty dark and doomy
RIYL: Mastodon, Red Fang, The Midnight Ghost Train
Runaway Kids - Better Days
This
band used to be called Betrayal when they were a hardcore band, but
they changed to a more punk sound and changed their name to reflect
that. I could have sworn this was a Rise Against track when I heard this
for the first time. Sounds really cool because it is like someone
mashed the aggression of a hardcore band with a punk sound, which is
exactly what happened.
RIYL: Rise Against, The Offspring, Anti Flag
Cut Up - Burial Time
Pretty
straight up death metal with an OSDM vibe to it, which isn't surprising
because this band formed form two of the ex-members of an OSDM band,
Vomitory. If you liked them, or any 90s Death Metal, you'll dig this.
RIYL: Vomitory, Malevolent Creation, Violent Remains
As always, you can expect to hear all these and more only on 89.5 FM WSOU!
