New Music 1/11/16

Date: January 11, 2016

Here's the first batch of new music for the new year:

Megadeth - Dystopia

This is the third Megadeth song released before the album comes out next week. Continues the trend of the fan response being really good, especially after their last couple albums were not too well received.
RIYL: Megadeth

Baroness - Kerosene

This album dropped in December and has been picking up a lot of steam from the metal and rock worlds as it does a perfect job meshing both. It combines the heaviness of early Baroness and the melody of the last couple albums well.

RIYL: Mastodon, Queens of the Stone Age, Kylesa

Prong - Ultimate Authority

Prong just came out with their covers album last year, so this was a pretty quick turn around for the, but that isn't the most surprising since they're usually consistent at putting out albums pretty quickly. This is the same old Prong everyone's come to know.

RIYL: Nailbomb, Corrosion of Conformity, Pro-Pain

Exmortus - Relentless

Exmortus' new album just dropped but the original single for this album (For the Horde) came out a while ago, so it was just featured in new music not too long ago. If anything they got faster, heavier and thrashier for this album.

RIYL: Skeletonwitch, Revocation, Battlecross

Varg - Revolution

Probably not the Varg that you're thinking of but this Varg is a really cool melodic death metal band, that incorporates some black metal in its music. If you like melodeath, you'll love this.

RIYL: Dimmu Borgir, Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquility

The Shrine - What's Left For Me

A new band that sounds like a vintage desert rock/metal band. I got some real Kyuss vibes from the riffing, so if you like the Palm Desert Rock scene, you'll dig this.

RIYL:Kyuss, Kylesa, Fu Manchu

Toothgrinder - Blue

A mathcore band from New Jersey. They put on one of the crazier live shows that you will see, but their recorded music backs it up perfectly. This album picks up where they left off with their EP a couple years ago.

RIYL: Dillinger Escape Plan, Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, The Number Twelve Looks Like You

Earthside - Crater

A progressive metal band that really reminds me of new Opeth. Really impressive musicianship with great melodic vocals to accompany it.

RIYL: Opeth, Torche, Thank you Scientist

Cauldron - Santa Mira

A thrash band that might have been plucked straight form the 80s as they seem to have a lot of early 80s metal influences as well.

RIYL: Enforcer, Holy Grail, The Sword

As always, if you see something you like, request it! 973-761-9768, that's 973-761-WSOU!
