Men's Soccer: Seton Hall vs Bloomfield RECAP

Date: August 23, 2014

By Chris Pierre-Louis

South Orange, N.J. – Senior forward Kai Greene exploded with a hat trick on Saturday as the Seton Hall men's soccer team closed out the preseason with a 3-1 win over Bloomfield College.

Greene continued to put together what has been a stellar preseason. He totaled five of the six goals for The Hall. While Greene was tearing up the back of the net, he did not do it alone.

Victor Manosalvas, who has had quite a summer away from Seton Hall himself, came up with all three assists for Greene. The junior won the National Premier Soccer League Player of the Year Award earlier this summer. Playing for the New York Red Bulls Under-23 squad, where he finished the season with 12 goals and seven assists, Manosalvas was the anchor for a team that went a perfect 12-0.

The Pirates' offense suffocated Bloomfield from the start. The first goal came in the 16th minute when Manasalvos crossed the ball into the center of the area where he found Greene to put it in the back of the net. Seven minutes later, Bloomfield was fooled again by the same combination, as a through ball reached into the box, leading to a score. While Bloomington took advantage of a Seton Hall miscue in the box in the 32nd minute, that was the biggest challenge that The Hall saw.

In the 35th minute, Greene had arguably his easiest opportunity as he moved past the rushing Bloomfield goalkeeper, but was denied by the post from a sharp angle.

But, in the 37th minute the hat trick was completed when capitalized on a Bloomfield turnover in the middle of the pitch and found Greene to finish once more.

The Pirates will look to build off their strong showings in the preseason as they head to Rhode Island University on Friday, August 29th to start the regular season. The Rams are coming off a 2-14 season in 2013. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
