Men's soccer rallies to defeat Sacred Heart 2-1

Date: September 19, 2018

After suffering a 1-0 loss in their Big East opener against St. John’s, the Pirates rebounded to close out their two game road trip with a 2-1 win over the Sacred Heart Pioneers.

The Pirates got out to a strong start offensively, dominating the Pioneers in first half shots 14-5. However, Sacred Heart was the first to get on the board thanks to a goal by Zander Hyltof off of an Alejandro Arribas corner kick in the 29th minute.

Seton Hall did not let the early deficit get to them. They continued the barrage of shots and responded in the 35th minute as senior Nico Andersen netted the equalizer to make it 1-1 as the match approached halftime.

In the second half, the Hall picked up right where they left off. Freshman JP Marin wasted no time to find the back of the net in the 55th minute thanks to a beautiful feed by Nico Andersen. The goal by Marin was the first of his career in just his second career match to make it 2-1 Pirates, enough to hang for the win.

Seton Hall finished the day with a 26-13 lead in shots, which also marks a season-high for the team. Carlton McKenzie helped lead the charge with 9 shots, 3 of which were on goal. Martin Storesund also had a solid game, recording 2 shots and an assist.

Following today's victory, Seton Hall improves to 3-2-1 overall and Sacred Heart falls to 1-5-1. Looking ahead, the Pirates will return home to Owen T. Carrol Field on Saturday, September 22nd, as they host the Marquette Golden Eagles at 6:30 pm.
