Local Cemeteries Commemorate Memorial Day

NEWARK, N.J. (May 28, 2016) - The Archdiocese of Newark Catholic Cemeteries is participating in a nationwide memorial. The annual celebration, "Serving God and Country: A Memorial Day Salute to Our Heroes" takes place on Monday, May 30th at 11:00 a.m. Local cemeteries and parishes participating in the program, developed by the national Catholic Cemetery Conference, will honor men and women who have died serving in the armed forces. Both active military and military veterans who have served our country will also be recognized.

"We give thanks to God for these heroes and for the freedom we enjoy, not only on Memorial Day weekend, but every day," said Andrew P. Schafer, Executive Director of Catholic Cemeteries, a ministry of the Archdiocese of Newark, and President of the Catholic Cemetery Conference.

There is an open invitation for all active military personnel and veterans to participate in Mass at Catholic Cemeteries. This holiday serves as an opportunity for Catholics throughout the country to remember and pray for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Memorial Day Mass will be celebrated at the following Catholic Cemeteries locations on Monday, May 30, at 11:00 am:
