Mike interviews Marty Friedman on his US tour to promote his album Inferno, living overseas in Japan and more!

On his first US tour in a decade and what made him go on tour.

“Well its not my first official US tour, but the first one was so short, it was only the west coast for two weeks, so i don’t really like to count that. So I like to say that this is my real first US tour where I’m catching the whole country. And it was time, I have a record called Inferno that was released internationally and had a fantastic response in America, and the best agency in the country asked me and asked me if I wanted to do a tour and I was like lets do it, and its been fantastic..."

"Absolutely blowing my mind every single night, I really had 0 idea what to expect, It might have been a bunch of guitar players with their arms folded and stuff. And its not that at all, its people going completely out of their minds, theres moshpit’s, theres everyone just getting really into it, its really something better than I thought it was going to be..."

On living in Japan and what made him move there

"The music, I really started getting in to Japanese current music, pop, rock , metal, digital music, I was listening to it 100% of the time. Like now I have to live there if I wanted to play stuff that I really like. And it just worked out beyond my wildest dreams and actually so well that i thought that i was never going to comeback to America, because i just couldn’t get away, it was so much going on. Inferno did really good outside of Japan, and kinda squeezed it out so I managed to do a one month tour now and we’re talking about a second leg in February, so things are looking good..."
