Mike's Take

Los Angeles Post-Hardcore band letlive. and British metalcore outfit Architects UK reached the New York City date of their co-headlining, spring tour on May 5, at Manhattan' s own Webster Hall. The best way to describe these two incredibly talented young bands' live sets would be, in a word, exuberant.

letlive. already has something of a reputation for having manic live performances, and the bands' evening at Webster Hall was no exception. The moment that front-man Jason Butler appeared on stage, the energy went through the roof. In a matter of moments, the room went from relatively tame, with fans waiting in anticipation, to nearly every person screaming, jumping, pushing and singing as loud as humanly possible. From the frantic intensity of Dreamers Disease to the chant-along outro of Muther, and every Jason Butler backflip in-between, letlive. put on a fierce, dynamic and heart-felt set from front to back.

Next up was the headliner for the night, Brighton's own Architects. Coming off their recently released sixth album Lost Forever//Lost Together, the band wasted no time and began their set with a track off their latest record, Gravedigger. Once again the Marlin Room erupted with energy and sound. Mosh pits formed towards the back of the venue, and fans screamed lyrics right back at front-man Sam Carter. Overall, the bands energy was on par with that of letlive. as they blasted the audience with breakdowns, sweeping solos and sing (or scream)-along choruses.

Architects showcased new songs and old favorites, and included two guest vocal appearances: Follow the Water featuring letlive.'s Jason Butler, and Early Grave featuring Stray From the Path's lead singer Drew York. Architects closed their set with These Colours Don't Run, off their album, Daybreaker, ending the night with a resounding and supercharged bang, leaving fans in awe.

You can catch letlive. and Architects, with supporting acts I The Mighty and Glass Cloud on tour together through May 21, with dates all over the US.

Erin's Take

I have been waiting for this show for months. The bill is incredible – Architects, letlive., Glass Cloud and I The Mighty. Each are leading their respective genres in the right direction. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous and uneasy to see such energetic bands at Webster Hall after the incident at the Miss May I show on Saturday, where unfortunately a fan in the crowd passed away. Fortunately, I would have to say that even with stricter security rules, that did not take away from his show at all.

The night started off strong with the clean-cut dudes in I The Mighty. You might have heard them on Under the Stars, which is WSOU's post hardcore specialty show. Even though they were playing to a half filled room, front man Brent Walsh knows how to get the crowd going.Even the scare at Webster Hall only a few nights earlier didn't stop him from jumping into the crowd, with the mic, never skipping a beat. The few fans they had in the room went crazy when they announced they were going to play "Four Letter Words" for the first time ever live. They definitely set up the mood for the rest of the night.

The next openers are one of my personal favorites, and I consider them to be highly underrated. The band I'm talking about is Glass Cloud out of Hampton, Virginia with founding member Jerry Roush killing it with his screaming vocals. You might remember him as the former vocalist of Sky Eats Airplanes and, for a short period of time, he replaced Austin Carlile's spot in Of Mice & Men. Although Jerry mentioned he had a pretty bad cold, it was unrecognizable on stage. Jerry is not the only noteworthy member of the band. Joshua Travis, who you may recognize from The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, was absolutely insane on the guitar. He plays an 8 string, yes, an 8 STRING GUITAR.It's a rare site when an opening band that most of the crowd is unfamiliar with can get the whole crowd jumping around and moshing, but that's exactly what Glass Cloud did. I think they made quite a few new fans in that audience

Since this was a co-headling tour, letlive. And Architects have rotated who headlines each night. For this New York City date, letlive. went first. This was not my first time seeing letlive., so I had an idea what I was in for. Jason Aalon Butler is absolutely out of his mind. That's the only way I can describe him. He's passionate and so into his music that I think he sometimes forgets he's on stage. I was excited to see what was in store for this show. He did a backflip off a wall, smashed a drum on stage and jumped into the crowd on several occasions. Jason even got a little choked up when the entire room was singing along to "Muther" off their second record "Fake History."Although his vocals were not completely on point, which can be expected when you are running and jumping around for 45 minutes straight, it was one of the best live performances I have ever seen. I wish the rest of the band got as into it as Jason does, but then again, there probably wouldn't be enough room on stage if that was the case.If you haven't seen letlive. live yet, GO DO IT.It was an experience that I feel like words can't fully capture.

The headliners for the night was UK's rising stars in Architects. Although they only formed in 2004, the band has been quickly rising to the top of the metal charts with their latest album Lost Forever // Lost Together. Although the album was just released in March, the entire crowd went wild when they performed their new song "Naysayer" and "Gravedigger."Jason of letlive. came on stage with the guys to perform Follow the Water and they even brought out Drew York of Stray from the Path to perform Early Grave. They ended the night on a high note and even though I think there were more letlive. fans in the building, they might of changed some minds tonight.
