WSOU Exclusive Interview: WWE's Ryback

Date: March 25, 2015

Pro-wrestler Ryback, from the WWE, talks about his wrestling inspirations, his role, his intro music, his finisher and a lot more, in this WSOU exclusive.

Below are a few excerpts from the interview done by Brian, check out the full audio version!

On his favorite WWE feud:

"Thus far, it was really cool to be in the ring with Chris Jericho, because growing up he was one of my favorites, when I was younger and he was starting with the WCW and everything, and he exceeded all expectations as far as just being cool and being a good guy and helping me out... but being in the ring with John Cena was really actually, early on in my WWE career, very beneficial for me..."

On the evolution of big men in wrestling and the legacy he wants to make:

"...when I leave this and when I'm done with this I want to set a whole new standard for big guys. So it's a never ending process."

On his entrance music and its importance to every wrestler:

"Music is so key to your identity and who you are... When I came back as Ryback here, from my groin injury I had, I was out for ten weeks, the first few weeks of live events they actually didn't have my "Feed Me More" in the music... and it threw me off because I need that mentally for me to have the switch... It's just one of those things, its so key to a performer to have the whole thing and the total package..."

On how he would have fit in the Attitude Era:

"...I think Ryback though, would fit in any era, simply because I'm very unique, and the power moves I can do, and how I am and I'm not just your typical one dimension big guy. Essentially you want to have something to offer that no one else is really doing. So, I fit in great right now, but I feel like if you plug me in back then and I could still do everything I'm doing right now and stand out and be unique... it's a matter of finding your niche in that time period."

On his finishing move and its origins:

"It was actually watching Brock Lesner do a Fisherman's Suplex from time to time back in his first run in WWE in like 2002. He wouldn't do it that often, it was every once in a while and I was out with the ankle injury. I was like "I could do that and then do it with a run though and make it different"... but having a unique finisher is so key, it's like the music. You gotta have a finisher."
