The Seton Hall men’s basketball team defeated Division 2 opponent New Haven 73-62 in their final exhibition game of season in Walsh Gymnasium.

In the beginning of the half, it was Myles Cale and Taurean Thompson who had the spotlight for the Hall. By the time the first media timeout came around, they were the only scorers for the Hall. Thompson had seven points on 3-6 shooting and Cale had five points on 2-2 shooting. The Pirates lead 12-7 at that point of the game.

After the first media timeout, the Pirates began to extend their lead. A flagrant foul by Elijah Bailey 10 minutes into the game gave the Pirates an opportunity to go on the free-throw line. Myles Powell took the flagrant foul shots and went 2-2 to give the Pirates a 23-19 lead. Then Sandro Mamukelashvili took his defensive rebound coast to coast for the easy layup and extended the lead to 10 points with 7:03 left in the first half. By the time both teams went into the locker room for halftime, the hall held a commanding 40-25 lead. Cale lead the Hall in scoring with 11 points on 4-5 shooting, however Bailey led all scorers with 14 points on 5-7 shooting in the first half.

Coming out the break, the Pirates started strong. A block early on by Mamukelashvili led to a transition dunk by Michael Nzei to have the Pirates lead 46-32 before the first media timeout. After the timeout, Powell found Cale for the open corner three to go up 51-36. A couple of scores later, the Pirates found themselves up 68-49 with seven minutes left to go in the game. They went on a six-minute field goal drought before the Hall ended it in a big way.

Romaro Gill threw down an alley-oop from Quincy McKnight to go up 71-60 with over a minute to go in the game. Cale then threw down a dunk of his own and that would be the end of the game. Cale would end the game with 20 points on 7-10 shooting and Thompson would be the only other Pirate to score double digits with 13 on 6-12 shooting. Powell and Gill nearly had double digits with nine points.

The Pirates will return to regular season action as they go to Lincoln, Nebraska to face the Huskers on Wednesday. The tipoff time for that game is 7:30 pm, and you can catch all of the action on 89.5FM and on the iHeartRadio App.
