The Seton Hall Pirates look to avoid a sweep on Saturday afternoon when they take on the St. John’s Red Storm in the final game of the away series at 1 p.m. in Queens, New York. The probable starters for Saturday’s matchup are David Festa (SHU: 3-3) and Nick Mondak (SJU: 1-2).

The Pirates dropped the first two games in this series against St. John’s on Thursday and Friday. Seton Hall’s bats were kept in check on Thursday night when they were shutout and held to six hits at the plate. Thursday’s game was a pitcher’s duel for the first five innings, as both teams were held scoreless and combined for eight hits through five innings.

The tide started to turn for St. John’s when Ryan Markey drove in a pair of runs with an two-RBI double to left field. Seton Hall never recovered on the mound and had difficulty producing an offensive stand at the plate, as the Pirates had two hits over the final four innings. Tyler Shedler-Mcavoy led the team in hits with two, and there were four other Pirates who recorded hits.

The Pirates lost to St. John’s, 7-6, on Friday. Seton Hall blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning, after they led 6-3. The Hall had eight hits over nine innings on Friday, compared to the Red Storm’s 11 hits. Christian Del Castillo and Steve Grober anchored the Pirates’ offense with two RBIs, respectively. Grober crushed a two-run home run over the wall in left-center field in the top of the eighth inning, that extended Seton Hall’s lead to 5-1. St. John’s responded by scoring two runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning.

St. John’s took advantage of Sean Miller and Corey Sawyer on the mound and rallied for a four-run ninth inning, as they went on to pull off the comeback against Seton Hall. The victory sealed a birth in the Big East Tournament for the Red Storm. Saturday’s game will decide the third and fourth seedings between Seton Hall and St. John’s in the Big East Tournament.

Saturday’s game between Seton Hall and St. John’s can be heard on 89.5 FM WSOU, with pregame coverage hosted by Ronny Castaneda and Dalton Allison at 12:45 p.m. On the call in Queens will be Chris Russo and Jose Feliciano.
