The Seton Hall Pirates (10-7 overall, 3-3 conference) will play the Creighton Bluejays (12-4 overall, 4-1 conference) on Friday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. at the historic Walsh Gymnasium.

The Pirates last played against the Marquette Golden Eagles, losing 81-60. Seton Hall has lost three of their last four games and is currently on a two-game losing streak. The Pirates have been struggling offensively as of late. In their previous match up against Marquette, they put up their lowest shooting percentage of the season. They made 20 of their 62 shot attempts, shooting at 32.3%.

They also only made 3 of their 15 three-point field goal attempts, shooting 20 percent from deep. Along with struggling to make their shots fall, the Pirates have allowed their opponents to go on huge scoring runs during the second half of the game. The Golden Eagles scored 20 out of the 24 points to start off the third quarter.

Seton Hall was outscored during the second half of the game, 43-26. Barbara Johnson led the team in scoring getting 20 points and six rebounds. Shadeen Samuels was expected to play a smaller role in the Marquette game but managed to play 29 minutes and finished the game with six points.

Alexis Lewis also did not score in the game against Marquette and went 0-3 in the 18 minutes that she played. The Creighton Bluejays won their last game against the Providence Friars, 72-63. The Bluejays went on a 19-5 run in the fourth to get the win. Creighton has come back to win in eight of the 12 games where they were trailing at one point.

Creighton has three players averaging points in double digits. Senior Jaylyn Agnew is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 19.7 points. Temi Carda is averaging 12.1 points and Tatum Rembao is averaging 11 points.

Seton Hall and Creighton spilt their games against each other last season, with the home team winning both games. Creighton is currently second in the division, behind DePaul. While Seton Hall is currently in sixth. Seton Hall has allowed teams to go on big runs in the third and fourth quarters in their recent games. Creighton tends to score more points in the second half of the game then in the first two quarters.

In the last two games for Seton Hall, they have turned the ball over 21 times in each game. If Seton Hall finds themselves with a lead going into the second half, they will need to find a way to protect it in order to secure the win. The Pirates need to get back to the basics and play a smart game if they want to stop their losing skid.

Coverage of this game can be heard on 89.5 FM WSOU with coverage of the game staring at 10:45 A.M. Heaven Hill and Bob Towey will have the call.
