Game Preview: SHU WBB welcomes St. John's to open Big East play (12/30/18)

The Seton Hall women’s basketball team (8-3) will commence their Big East conference action against St. John’s (7-4) on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm in Walsh Gymnasium.  

 

The Pirates and Red Storm split the season series last season. Seton Hall was victorious 62-57 in the first matchup on January 21st and they fell to the Red Storm 75-56 on February 16th. Since coach Bozzella took over the reins of Seton Hall in 2013, the Pirates have a 3-7 record against St. John’s.

 

The Pirates are coming off of a trip to the West Palm Beach Invitational, where they were victorious in one of the two tournament tilts. The Hall captured that lone tournament victory in the final game of the Invitational against UNC Greensboro. Shadeen Samuels led the way for the Pirates with 17 points and eight rebounds last Friday night verse UNC Greensboro. Kaela Hilaire and Victoria Cardaci combined for a total of 28 points in the contest. Inja Butina totaled five points in her second game back from her injury.

 

St. John’s is coming off of a 64-51 road loss to James Madison last Friday. Akina Wellere and Curteeona Brelove each had a team-high of 13 points. The Red Storm’s field goal percentage against James Madison was 30.6% and they went 3-16 from behind the arc.

 

The Red Storm are 3-2 on the road this season and average just under 63 points in their road games. On the other hand, Seton Hall is undefeated at Walsh Gymnasium this season with a 6-0 home record. In the home games for the Pirates, they have averaged 93.5 points per game.

 

The game will be broadcasted live on 89.5 FM WSOU and the iHeartRadio app beginning at 12:45 pm. Jose Feliciano and Wilnir Louis will be in studio, and Dalton Allison and James Justice are on the call.
