The Seton Hall women’s basketball team (14-13 Overall, 6-10 Big East) hopes to avoid a six-game losing streak when they travel to Villanova to take on the Wildcats (16-10 Overall, 7-8 Big East).

The Pirates are coming off of a 51-43 loss to Georgetown where the team saw an 18 point, third-quarter lead evaporate. Seton Hall maintained control over Georgetown for the entirety of the first 20 minutes, as they went into halftime ahead 26-13. The Pirates shot 44% from the field in the opening half and had 11 assists.

Seton Hall generated 17 points in the second half, compared to Georgetown’s resurgence of 38 points in the final 17 minutes of the game. The Hall turned the ball over 24 times during the four quarters of play, despite holding Georgetown to only 26% from the field on the other end of the court.

In Shadeen Samuels’s return to the floor since her injury, the junior recorded six points and seven rebounds in 39 minutes. Desiree Elmore was the lone Pirate in double-figures on the afternoon, as she scored 17 points and added seven boards. Georgetown saw the majority of their scoring come from the four players they had in double-figures. Leading the way for the Hoyas was Dionna White, who registered 19 points.

43 points against Georgetown are the least amount of points scored for the Pirates this season. The last time the Pirates scored less than 60 points in a game was on Jan. 4th, against Butler. In that game, the Pirates were held to 59 points by the Butler Bulldogs.

Villanova was in action on Friday night when they hosted the St. John’s Red Storm. The Wildcats were not able to hold off the Red Storm on their home court, as they fell to St. John’s 66-62. The Red Storm were ahead of Villanova 33-31 heading into the half. On the night, Villanova shot 46% from the field and sank 11/24 attempted three-point baskets. Adrianna Hahn anchored the Wildcats on offense with 19 points in 37 minutes on the hardwood. Mary Gedaka contributed 17 points on the night, followed by Kelly Jekot’s 13 points.

Coming into Sunday’s contest, Villanova sits at the fifth spot in the Big East. Seton Hall finds themselves in the second to last place in the Big East. Despite the four-team separation between these two squads, Seton Hall (6-10 Big East) is only one game behind Villanova (7-8 Big East) in the conference’s loss column.

Seton Hall and Villanova last met each other on Jan. 25th, in Walsh Gymnasium. In that game, Villanova manufactured an 11 point, fourth-quarter comeback, to defeat Seton Hall 70-66. Samuels recorded a double-double with 27 points and 16 rebounds. Inja Butina added 22 points to the scoring totals and secured eight rebounds. For Villanova, Gedaka nearly had herself a double-double, as she scored 20 points and captured nine rebounds. Hahn and Jannah Tucker combined 30 points, with 16 and 14 points each.
