Game Preview: Seton Hall travels to St. John's (9/15/18)

Date: September 14, 2018

New head coach Andreas Lindberg and the Seton Hall men’s soccer team (2-1-1 overall) look to start their conference play on the right foot when they cross state borders to play the St. Johns Red Storm (3-3 overall) at Belson Stadium in Queens, New York tonight at 7 pm.

For Seton Hall, they started off their season hot, with two away victories against Army West Point (2-2-1 overall) and Central Connecticut State (0-4 overall).

In their first game of the season against Army West Point, the Pirates needed two extra periods in order to squeak out a victory. Freshman CJ Tibbling was the hero of that game, starting his collegiate career in a big way. He would be the lone goal scorer after giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute off a penalty kick and giving the Pirates the win in the 105th minute by way of a header after a crosser by Senior Nico Andersen.

In the second game against the Central Connecticut Blue Devils, Martin Storesund and Carlton Mckenzie would be the two players to score for the Pirates. After Storesund scored in the 19th minute, the Blue Devils would then even the score back up in the 28th minute. The score would stay level for a majority of the game until the 85th minute when Mckenzie would score the go-ahead goal from a crosser by Andersen.

After that hot two-game start, however, the Pirates would begin to falter off after a 1-3 away loss versus the Delaware Blue Hens, and a 0-0 tie in their home opener versus Hofstra. The Pirates will look to use this game as the ignition to drive another win streak in the season.

Yet this win will not be easy for Seton Hall, as St. Johns will be looking to redeem themselves after a September 11 home loss versus Loyola Maryland. The score of that game was 1-0.

Similar to Seton Hall, St. John’s started their season hot. After a season opener loss to UC Santa Barbara, the Red Storm bounced back in a big way. They beat Loyola Marymount 4-1, and then beat Fairfield in overtime 2-1. After that, they played three close games versus Lehigh, Temple, and Loyola Maryland. They only were victorious in one of those games; a 1-0 overtime win versus Temple.

St. John’s is 3-3 overall with a 1-2 home record. This game will also be their Big East opener.

This matchup will definitely be a great test for the Pirates, and WSOU will be there with you the whole way through. WSOU will provide the match for you on 89.5 FM and on the iHeartRadio app, with Daegen Hughes and Dalton Allison on the call.
