Date: November 8, 2019

By: Madi Travisano

The Seton Hall Pirates continue regular season play Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. in Walsh Gymnasium as they take on the Fairfield Stags.

The Pirates beat Sacred Heart in their season opener 95-69 this past week with upperclassmen and freshmen alike getting fans excited for the 2019-20 season. While to no surprise for Pirate fans, junior Desiree Elmore and senior Shadeen Samuels shined for the Pirates in their first outing for the season. Elmore put up 20 points to go along with nine rebounds, while Samuels earned her 11th double-double of her career with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

Freshmen standouts Lauren Park-Lane and Mya Jackson also had dominant performances as they continue to prove how key they can be to Seton Hall’s offense in their next four years. Overall, the Pirates had an impressive outing by forcing 28 Sacred Heart turnovers but not stopping there, as they turned those in to 25 points to extend their 30-point win.

Coming off a big first win the Pirates look towards Fairfield as they take them on in Walsh Gymnasium this Saturday morning. The Hall has played the Stags twice with wins coming in both of those previous meetings. The last time these two teams met up was on Dec. 21, 2017, in South Orange, New Jersey. In that game, Seton Hall prevailed 80-61 over Fairfield. Samuels registered two points and six rebounds, while logging 23 minutes on the floor.

Fairfield was projected sixth in their conference preseason poll in the Metro Atlantic Conference (MAAC). Returning for the Stags is MAAC Rookie of the Year Lou Lopez-Senechal. In the 2018-19 season she averaged 11.4 points per game to go along with 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists. In their season opener this past week against Temple, she recorded 15 points as she continues to be the focal point of the Stags offense.  The Stags are coming off a season where they posted an 11-20 overall record and were 7-11 in MAAC conference play.

For Fairfield, Saturday’s game against Seton Hall will be the second of their three-game road trip to open up their season. After they play Seton Hall, Fairfield will travel to Brooklyn, N.Y., on Wednesday night to play the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds at 7 p.m. On the other hand, Seton Hall will play in their second game on Saturday of their four-game homestand to begin their season. The next game for the Pirates will be on Tuesday evening at home against VCU at 7:00 p.m.

Coverage of the game begins at 10:45 a.m. with the pregame show hosted by Dalton Allison and Michael Daly, while Robert Towey and Jorie Mickens are on the call. Be sure to tune in to 89.5 FM WSOU for morning tipoff time at 11:00 a.m. in the historic Walsh Gymnasium.
