Game preview: Seton Hall closes out season series against Creighton on Sunday

Date: February 15, 2020

By: John Makuch

The Seton Hall Pirates (16-9 overall, 9-5 conference) will be taking on the Creighton Bluejays (15-9 conference, 7-6 overall) at the D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb.

The Pirates are coming off a blowout victory against the Providence Friars where they took the win 71-45. The game was a dominant performance for the Pirates with five players scoring in double-digits, highlighted by Desiree Elmore who had 12 points and nine rebounds. Most of this dominance came in the third quarter where the Pirates outscored the Friars 24-6 which really put the game away.

Seton Hall looks to begin a new winning streak after a three-game win streak was snapped by DePaul on Feb. 9. While DePaul appears to have the number one spot in the Big East locked up, these final four games as the season wind down become even more important to acquire better seeding for the Big East Tournament in the beginning of March. With this being the second to last road game for Seton Hall, this could make or break the Pirates’ seeding in that tournament.

The Bluejays will prove to be a more difficult opponent for Seton Hall, as they are two games behind The Hall in conference play and have only one less win in overall record. The Bluejays are led by senior Jaylyn Agnew who is averaging 19.3 points a game and should prove to be a tough opponent to guard throughout the contest.

Having to guard a scorer such as Agnew can open up the game for other players such as Temi Carda and Tatum Rembao who average 13.1 and 11.3 points respectively. Seton Hall will need to have a complete defensive game if they want to slow down the Bluejays’ offense. Seton Hall will have to use the physicality and toughness that they have had all season to control the pace of the game and slow down the tempo

The game can be heard on 89.5 FM WSOU with coverage starting at 1:45. Matt Mlodzinski and Michael Daly will be on the call, while Ronny Castaneda ad Jose Balderrama will keep you updated in studio from South Orange, N.J.
