Game Preview: Seton Hall baseball hosts Creighton for first "home" series (4/18/19)

Date: April 17, 2019

It is time to see how Seton Hall will play at their home away from home.

With renovations taking over Owen T. Carroll Field, Seton Hall baseball (16-17 Overall, 2-1 Conf.) will play their first series as the home team when they take on the Creighton Bluejays (19-8 Overall, 2-1 Conf.) at Richmond County Bank Ballpark in Staten Island, N.Y.

Seton Hall is coming off of a 6-3 win against in-state rivals Monmouth. In that matchup, Nick Payero got the win after pitching three shutout innings, striking out four batters while only allowing two hits. Center fielder Tyler Shedler-McAvoy helped the team with a two-run triple. Sebastian Santorelli, Christian Del Castillo, and Alex Clyde also helped to bring in runs. On the mound, the Hall used six different pitchers to help lead them into victory.

Before that mid-week matchup, the Hall had a three-game series against No.19 Texas Christian University. They lost the first two games of that series 5-1 and 8-6 before coming back and winning the last game of the series 7-3.

On the other side of the contest, the Bluejays are coming off a Big East series with the Butler Bulldogs. They lost the final game of that series, being shut out, 5-0. Before that game, they won 8-7 and 7-5.

Overall on the season, Creighton has five players with batting averages over .300, with Jake Holton leading the charge with a .392 average. Holton also leads the team in home runs with nine on the season. On the mound, John Sakowski and Bobby Kametas both lead the team with ERAs under 3.00.

Seton Hall will try to relive the magic they were able to have last year against Creighton. In last year’s series at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Seton Hall was able to bounce back from a 4-2 loss in game one, and defeated Creighton 2-1 in game two, before allowing no runs and winning 3-0 in game three. The key to those games was the elite pitching by the seniors, so the Hall will look to find that same magic in their bullpen this year.

Will Seton Hall continue their streak or will the Bluejays right their ship? Find out on 89.5 FM WSOU or on the iHeartRadio app, when Matt Ambrose and Jose Feliciano cover everything from the first pitch at 1 PM, to the final out.
