Game Preview: Seton Hall attempts to snap losing streak against Creighton (1/11/19)

Date: January 10, 2019

By Evando Thompson

The Seton Hall women’s basketball team is set to return to Walsh Gymnasium to take on Creighton Friday morning after suffering two Big East road losses, by a combined four points, to Butler and Xavier, respectively.

After being down by as many as 12 in the first half and six in the fourth quarter, the Pirates refused to give Xavier an easy win as they forced overtime. Kaela Hilaire had a chance to win it in regulation, but could not get a shot off as she lost the ball at the buzzer.

The Pirates have been a much better team at home this season than on the road, winning each home game by 10 or more points. Seton Hall is a perfect 7-0 at home and will look to get back to .500 in the Big East Conference standings with a win.

Shadeen Samuels has continued her breakout season as the Pirates’ leading scorer, reaching double figures in four of her last five games and has averaged 8.4 rebounds in that span.

Creighton comes into Walsh Gymnasium at 8-7, having ended a two-game losing streak with a victory last Sunday over Georgetown.

The Blue Jays’ offense is led by senior forward Audrey Faber, who averages 17.7 points per game, five rebounds, and is shooting 39% from the three-point line. Faber is followed by junior forward Jaylyn Agnew, who averages 12.1 points on the season. Faber and Agnew were double digit scorers last season, as well.

Creighton has held opposing teams to a stingy 5.9 made three-pointers per game. In the games that they have won this season, Creighton has made double-digit three-pointers in all but two of them.

This is the first game of a back-to-back home stand for Women’s Basketball. Tip-off is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. inside Walsh Gym.
