Game Preview: Pirates head to D.C to battle Hoyas (2/22/19)

Date: February 21, 2019

The Seton Hall women’s basketball team (14-12 Overall, 6-9 Conference) will look to bounce back after their worst loss of the season when they travel to the nation’s capital to take on the Hoyas of Georgetown (11-14 Overall, 5-9 Conference) early Friday morning at 11:00 AM from McDonough Arena.

The Pirates are coming off of a four game skid with No. 8 Marquette (109-63) being the most recent fault. The leading scorer and rebounder for the pirates, Shadeen Samuels, left the DePaul match with an injury. Uncertain towards the severity of this injury, the Pirates will need to get deep within their line up to walk out of D.C with a victory.

With their leading scorer out, the Pirates desperately needed someone to step up, which sophomore guard Desiree Elmore did. In each of the past two games Elmore has recorded 21 points, on an average 62.5% shooting, and 8 rebounds. Elmore also tied her season high for assists against Marquette with four. Despite coming up short in both contests, Elmore has certainly stepped up by putting up impressive numbers for her squad.

Georgetown is also seeing some recent difficulty, sitting second-to-last in Big East standings. Their most recent game was at the hands of the Villanova Wildcats (91-43) last Saturday. Graduate student Dorothy Adomako has been leading the way for the Hoyas, averaging a team high 15.7 points and 7.8 rebounds. Adomako,s recent performance has gotten her recognized as the Big East player of the week. Senior guard Dionna White will also pose a threat for the Pirates as both teammates sit within the top five in scoring in the Big East, and top 10 in rebounds. As a team, the Hoyas lead the Big East in Blocked shots this season, averaging 4.9 a game.

Both the Pirates and Hoyas sit towards the bottom of the Big East Conference at #8 and #9 respectively. With only 3 games left in the regular season, the Pirates will look to finish the season strong as they will soon be heading into the Big East Tournament.

The Pirates will need to flip the page after Sunday’s 46-point loss if they look to take down the Hoyas.
