Game preview: Pirates are on the road against Lehigh

The Seton Hall Pirates women’s basketball team will be facing off against Lehigh this Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Stabler Arena.

The Pirates’ last time out faced off against St. Joseph’s in Rose Hill Gym where they beat the Hawks handedly, 55-39. Last time out for Lehigh, the Hawks improved to 4-0 after thrashing Central Connecticut State, 70-51. The Pirates are led by forward Shadeen Samuels who is the Preseason Big East Player of the Year, is on the Citizen Naismith Trophy List and the Cheryl Miller Watch List. This season, Samuels is close to averaging a double-double with 9.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game.

Preseason All Big East Selection, Desiree Elmore is another key cog for the Pirates. Elmore is averaging 16.4 points per game for the pirates with a game high score of 20 occurring twice this season. The junior guard is also averaging 8.4 rebounds per game. Another key contributor for the Pirates is senior Alexis Lewis. Lewis is averaging 14.4 points per game is season after sitting out last season. She also is averaging 5.0 rebounds a game to help the Pirates.

In Seton Hall’s loss to Princeton she put up a season high of 27 points in the defeat. On the other side of the game is the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. Lehigh is 4-0 for a reason, as they have been putting up big scores, including their season opener in which they dominated Delaware State 68-38. Lehigh is led by senior guard Camryn Buhr. On the season, Buhr is averaging 15.5 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game.

The 6-foot-1-inch guard put up 20 point her last time out and has scored in the double-digits in each of her appearances. Another threat the Pirates need to be on the lookout for is forward Cameryn Benz. Benz is 6-foot-3-inches and is averaging 10 points and 6.8 boards per game. The senior is dangerous, as she put up 20 points in the season opener.

The rest of the team for Lehigh offers scoring off the bench. In their matchup versus George Washington, the Mountain Hawks bench put up 39 points. Seton Hall needs to be able to not tire out.
