The Seton Hall softball team lost to the DePaul Blue Demons 12-4 in the final game of their home series against the currently top ranked team in the conference.

The Blue Demons initially were quiet from the plate, but an impressive offensive performance in the third inning, in which they totaled eight runs, was too much for the Pirates to respond back. DePaul Catcher Jessica Cothern began the third inning with a solo shot to left field, giving the confidence for the rest of the lineup to swing away against Pirates' sophomore Reganne Camp. She was relieved of her pitching duties early in the third as Madison Strunk came in as relief. However, another home run by DePaul right fielder Megan Leyva, who ended up leading the Blue Demons offensively with three hits and three RBIs, brought the score to 8-0.

The Hall tried to bounce back in the fourth inning, as both Alexis Walkden and Hailey Arteaga scored from an error by DePaul first baseman Haydn Christensen.

Both Destini Peck and Arteaga would help drive in two more runs for the Pirates in both the fourth and fifth innings respectively, but that was not enough as the run-rule ended the game at the conclusion of the fifth inning.

A strong performance on the mound from Kennedy Garcia (3-3) halted any offensive rally for the Pirates, as she ended the game with five strikeouts and three hits on four IP.

Although the Pirates hitting was limited, history was on display for the fans as Senior Alexis Walken's drew her 103rd walk of her career to tie the Hall's all-time record.

The Pirates look to bounce back as they finish their 5-game home stand when they host non-conference opponent Fairfield on Tuesday, March 27 starting at 3:30PM. Make sure to tune in to WSOU 89.5 FM to hear the call.
