Dave Mustaine Interview

Date: March 11, 2016

Rohit interviewed Dave Mustaine of Megadeth about the newest album, Dystopia, touring, and more!

On the album's inspiration:
"This record was kind of like a continuation of the piece "countdown to extinction"... The lyrics an the topics changed a little bit, I think this is a little more in our wheelhouse, what we enjoy doing... The real metamorphosis of the band didn't really happen until we got new management. "

On Kiko pushing him as a guitarist:
"Pushed Me? Oh yeah, I mean even the weakest guitar player in Megadeth Alumni, excluding myself, you know the other guys that have played with us have always pushed me. Whether it was in a fun way, or in a way you're not really having a good time and you're relying on your partner or if you're in one of those places where you and the other guitar player aren't seeing eye to eye and you actually want to go out there and best them... Sometimes the competition gets a little real, sometimes you're out on the road with somebody and you're not happy with that day, but the show has to go on. That's happened multiple times over the years so far."

On the future of Megadeth:
"I think that [Chris's future in Megadeth] can be best answered by him. We're really happy that the guys in Lamb of God aren't protesting that we have him play with us... It'd be great if Chris could continue on every single date, but there's gonna be some he can't and for those days we got a drummer that he said he picked. My hunch is that the answer would probably be yes, I think Chris wants to [record the Megadeth next album]... If he wants to, I mean the drum position is his if he wants it, until we have to make a decision to determine otherwise."

WSOU would like to thank Dave for taking the time for this interview. Megadeth is playing Terminal 5 in NYC March 16th and 17th!
