Date: October 6, 2018

By Max Mantle

Seton Hall was swept in three straight sets by Creighton on Friday night.

With both of them matching each other blow for blow in the first set with the score at 3-3, Creighton established drastic separation with a 16–11 lead. This lead widened when Creighton took the lead at 19-13. A display of grit kept Seton Hall relevant at 20-17, but Creighton ultimately prevailed with the score of 25-20.

Creighton came out of the gate swinging in the second set, taking an early 7-3 lead. The significant lead remained over the head of the Pirates, as they have constantly struggled with finding their footing in the growing deficit, exemplified by the 19-12 score. However, Seton Hall pulled within 2 at 22-20, but the Blue Jays ultimately won the set 25-21.

Creighton entered the third set in the driver’s seat, while Seton Hall was anxious to establish momentum going forward. Identical to the previous set, Creighton took another 7-3 lead. Seton Hall took 5 of the next 6 points to cut the deficit to 8-7, which was a nice display of perseverance.

Seton Hall refused to quit, and pulled within 1 at 16-15. Battling back and forth in the late stages of the set, Caitlin Koska contributed 2 kills to make 21-17, 21-19. Despite their admirable effort, the Pirates conceded the set 25-21 as well as the match, losing 3-0.

Haylee Gasser led the Pirates with 10 kills, Koska contributed 9 kills, while Sophia Coffey had a whopping 31 assists out of the Pirates 33.

The Pirates hope to snap their 7 game losing streak on Sunday, October 7th, when they’ll travel to Rhode Island to take on Providence at 1pm.
