College Radio Day 2014

Date: October 3, 2014

As we have since its inception, WSOU will participate in College Radio Day and while we will still be rocking loud and hard that day, we are adding in some special elements. Throughout the day, WSOU's programming will feature artists speaking about how important college radio has been to their careers. Some of the bands listeners will be hearing from are Five Finger Death Punch, Senses Fail, Doro, Accept and Torrential Downpour.  WSOU alumni, including ESPN's Bob Ley, Atlantic Records' Anthony Delia, and 1010 WINS reporter/anchor Glenn Schuck among others, will talk about how their college radio experiences laid the foundation for their successful careers. We hope that these conversations will remind everyone the vital role college radio stations play in supporting new music and developing talent for the media industry.  Be it a DJ, a sportscaster, a music producer or the next Pearl Jam or My Chemical Romance (both received their first NYC airplay on WSOU), college broadcasters are nurturingtomorrow'stalent.  In addition, at1 p.m.WSOU will air the "College Radio Day Simulcast." This one-hour special program features Andrew W.K., Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings, Rudy), Sugarcult, Twin Peaks, and more. College Radio Day exists to remind all of us how much student-run stations matter to this medium and WSOU is proud to be involved with this effort. Over the past few years WSOU has seen a surge in student involvement, which demonstrates that today's students remain interested in college radio and that some of them are quite passionate about it.

WSOU will also being using College Radio Day to kick off a partnership with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. Between Oct. 3 and November 21, WSOU will be sponsoring a food drive and working to raise awareness about hunger and food insecurity in the Garden State.
