Chris Schweitzer's week three power five

Date: September 26, 2018

By Chris Schweitzer

Week 3 of the NFL season is over and done with, and it didn’t fail to surprise us. A few teams were able to get their first wins of the season, while a couple of upsets saw two high ranking teams lose their first game of the year. We still have 3 undefeated teams in the league but only two of them made this list, so let’s get into the rankings and find out who was left out.

  1. 1. Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles rams continue to beat opponents, and beat them efficiently. They are scoring an average of 34 points per game against their opponents and only giving up an average of 12 per game. The only negative you can say about the Rams at this moment is that their top two cornerbacks picked up injuries on Sunday against the Chargers and will be forced to miss some time. Marcus Peters should be back in a few weeks but Aqib Talib could possibly miss a couple of months.

  1. 2. Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to dominate on offense with Patrick Mahomes under center. They are scoring an insane 39 points per game so far this season, and have faced some pretty tough opponents. Beating the Chargers, Steelers, and 49ers isn’t easy to do, and the Chiefs have made it look easy. They have given up the most yards per game and the second most points per game on defense though and that can end up being a problem.

  1. 3. Carolina Panthers

For as long as I can remember the Panthers have been able to run the football effectively and this season is no different. The days of Deangelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart are over in Carolina, but the days of Cam Newton and Christian McCaffrey are here. They are averaging an absurd 166 yards per game and paired with a solid defense, and that makes them one of the best teams in the league.

  1. 4. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars dropped from last week after they beat the Patriots and advanced to 2-0. While the Jaguars offense had an awful performance on Sunday, they’re still missing their best player in Leonard Fournette and the defense is still dominant so I don’t want to discredit them too much.

  1. 5. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints make their way into the top 5 after a disappointing start to the season. After a week 1 loss they fought hard for two consecutive wins after that including the offensive shootout against the Falcons where the Saints won in overtime to improve to 2-1. The New Orleans defense is a huge problem for this team especially with Patrick Robinson getting injured for the season, but the offense has the talent to be one of the best offenses we’ve ever seen under Drew Brees.
