Chris Schweitzer's week six power five

Date: October 18, 2018

By Christopher Schweitzer

A heavyweight matchup between the number two Kansas City Chiefs and the number five New England Patriots saw the Patriots take the win at home and move up in the power rankings. The Carolina Panthers had a very disappointing Sunday as they lost to the Washington Redskins and fell out of the top 5.

1. Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams played their worst game of the season in week 6 against the Denver Broncos, but still managed to come away with the victory. They also had to deal with an injury to Cooper Kupp while already dealing the absence of their top two cornerbacks. With everything against them, the Rams were still able to get a victory thanks to Todd Gurley rushing for 208 yards.

2. New England Patriots

The New England Patriots took on the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in Foxborough, and beat Patrick Mahomes in a shootout. The Patriots won the game 43-40, and it featured a Tom Brady game winning drive capped off by a 28 yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski. It’s not a good sign that the defense gave up 40 points, but the fact that they were playing the Chiefs is a big reason for that. As long as Tom Brady can score 43 points, it doesn’t really matter how many points the defense allows.

3. Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs lost their first game of the season on Sunday night when they traveled to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots. Despite the loss, the offense put on a show again as they scored 40 points and totaled 446 yards. The defense is still a major problem, but the Patriots are the only team able to outscore the Chiefs so far this season so they don’t fall too far on the power rankings.

4. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints were on a bye this past week and although I don’t like to drop teams when they didn’t play, it hurt the Saints that the Chiefs lost while still performing well. The Saints still hold on to a great record with only one loss on the season and boast one of the league’s best and most complete offenses.

5. Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers make their first appearance on the top five this season after a very strong performance against the Cleveland Browns. The Chargers have two losses on the season, but those two losses came against the Chiefs and the Rams who are two of the top three teams this season. They have looked good against every other team they’ve played so far and jump into the number five spot this week.
