Chris Schweitzer's week four power five

Date: October 3, 2018

By Chris Schweitzer

All of the teams from last week’s top five remained in this week’s top five as all of the top teams were able to secure wins, or were on a bye this past week. While the teams in the top five stayed the same the order of these teams has changed slightly with a couple strong performances on Sunday.

1. Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams put on a world class performance on Thursday night against the Minnesota Vikings when they won 38-31. The score makes the game seem much closer than it really was, as the Rams offense was unstoppable. Jared Goff totaled 465 yards through the air and threw 5 touchdowns to lead the offense. The Vikings were able to accumulate 446 yards of total offense against the Rams, but Minnesota was playing from behind for most of the game, and Los Angeles is missing their top two corners. The Rams defense showed up late to get 4 sacks in the second half.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs continued to stay undefeated on Monday night as they took down the division rival Broncos 27-23. The Broncos gave the Chiefs more of a challenge than any other team has so far this season, and the Chiefs still responded with a win. Despite facing tougher opponents and being faced with adversity, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were still able to come away with a hard fought victory on the road.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars made easy work of the New York Jets on Sunday and continued their inconsistent performances. After losing a bad game to the Titans last week, the Jags showed why they are one of the best teams in the league and took care of business on both sides of the ball. Blake Bortles threw for 388 yards, and the defense held the Jets to 178 yards of total offense.

4. New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints went into Met Life Stadium and used Alvin Kamara to take down the Giants on Sunday afternoon. This wasn’t the best performance we’ve seen from Drew Brees with only 217 yards through the air but Alvin Kamara made up for it with 134 yards and 3 touchdowns rushing to secure the victory for New Orleans. It was also a positive to see this New Orleans defense that has struggled mightily so far this season hold the Giants to 18 points.

5. Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers were on a bye this week, but that isn’t enough of a reason for them to fall out of the top five. They still have a dynamic rushing offense with a strong defense. They also have a very favorable matchup against the New York Giants coming up next week and should be expecting Greg Olsen to return soon to help the passing offense.
