Chris Schweitzer's week 14 power five

Date: December 13, 2018

By Christopher Schweitzer

A crazy week in the NFL was full of great games and wild finishes. The week started off with Derrick Henry running all over Jacksonville to lead the Titans to a victory on Thursday night, and we saw walk off victories on Sunday. Miami with a 69-yard hook and latter play to take down the Patriots, Amari Cooper catching a tipped ball for an overtime touchdown, and Chris Boswell slipping on the game winning field goal attempt all took place on Sunday to recap a crazy weekend.

1. New Orleans Saints – The New Orleans Saints regained the top spot of the power rankings this week after they clinched their division title with a victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Saints won 28-14 over their division rivals who handed them a loss in Week 1. The Saints were surely looking for revenge in this game, and got it by being able to celebrate a division title after a fourth quarter comeback at their opponents stadium.

2. Kansas City Chiefs – The Kansas City Chiefs were once again involved in one of the best games of the year as they beat the Baltimore Ravens 27-24 in overtime on Sunday. The Ravens defense is arguably the best in the league and the Chiefs offense struggled for the first time all season. Despite starting slow on offense, Patrick Mahomes used his incredible arm to throw the ball 53 times and rack up 377 yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs defense made plays when they needed to as well, when they were able to stop the Ravens from scoring in overtime and win the game.

3. Los Angeles Rams – The Los Angeles Rams were defeated 15-6 on Sunday night when they traveled to Chicago to take on the Bears in primetime. This game was all about the defense as there was only one offensive touchdown scored on the night, but seven turnovers between the two teams. Todd Gurley was unable to have an impact on the ground and Jared Goff had a night to forget with a 45% completion percentage and four interceptions.

4. Los Angeles Chargers - The Los Angeles Chargers hosted the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday and won by the score of 26-21. The Chargers, without their best offensive player in Melvin Gordon, were still able to move the ball and leaned on Keenan Allen and Austin Ekeler to pick up the slack. The Chargers struggled with the Bengals rushing attack for most of the game, but held a lead for most of the afternoon and came away with the victory.

5. Chicago Bears – The Chicago Bears took down the Los Angeles Rams at home on Sunday night by a score of 15-6. The Bears defense was incredibly dominant and held Todd Gurley to 28 yards rushing on the night. Chicago bounced back after a shock loss to the Giants last week with one of their best games of the season. Despite the offense not doing much, the defense was so incredible against a powerful Rams offense that it didn’t matter.
