Seton Hall WBB Loses to Villanova

Date: January 13, 2017

The woes continue for the Seton Hall Women’s Basketball team, as the Pirates dropped their fifth straight contest in 2017 to Villanova 69-52 in front of a raucous crowd at Pauley Pavilion on Friday in Villanova.

The Pirates (8-9, 1-5 BIG EAST) have not won a game since Dec. 30, 2016 versus St. John’s and had a tough task from the start of this contest to upend the Wildcats (7-9, 3-3 BIG EAST). Villanova started the game shooting 6-12 from beyond the arc, while the Pirates not make three-pointer until late in the second quarter. Lubirdia Gordon lead the way for Seton Hall with 20 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks, while Kaela Hilaire chipped in with 15 points, four assists, and two steals.

Although each team shot no better than 38 percent from field, the Pirates had troubles on the offensive glass and distributing the ball, leading to more looks for Villanova in order to get out in front in the first half. Seton Hall shot just 4-15 from beyond the arc compared to Villanova’s 14-37, while getting out-rebounded 45-26 and 18-6 offensively by the Wildcats.

In the second half, the Pirates were able to cut the lead to as little as seven midway through the fourth quarter behind strong play from Hilaire and Gordon. Other than them, no Pirate scored more than five points. The team’s leading scorer, JaQuan Jackson, was limited to just five points on 2-12 shooting.

Seton Hall was unable to contain Villanova’s Adrianna Hahn and Alex Louin, who scored 22 and 20 points, respectively. Hahn went 7-12 from behind the three-point line.

The Pirates will look to get back on track and break their recent skid on Sunday, Jan. 15 on the road against Georgetown at 2 p.m.
